The Wild Diet
Wild diet: How many “climbs” in an elephant, a lion, a hippopotamus, a leopard? Wild animals can not go to the grocery and the owner will not bring them food. In search of food, they spend the bulk of their lives. Some animals overcome huge distances in search of food. In any case, nutrition is a complex process that requires time and effort. If you do not go into the subtleties, then you probably know what these or other representatives of the animal kingdom eat. Today I would like to tell you that animal needs how much food for a normal life. And since I’m in Africa, it’s mostly about savanna animals.
They need 2-3 tons to eat. On a hot day, they sit in the water, and with sunset they go ashore in search of grass.
They eat all night, because 70 kilograms of grass is a serious business.
Giraffes: They are very long neck animals. It is thanks to the neck that they are able to obtain their food, specifically, acacia leaves. For a day, the giraffe is able to consume about 30 kilograms of foliage of the tree.
Zebras and antelopes make all known great migration through the expanses of the Masai Mara and Serengeti national parks. They make huge transitions and everything for the sake of fresh grass. Each individual eats an average of 5-7 kilograms of grass.
Elephants: They requires the largest amount of food. Elephants eat grass, leaves and other plants. Elephants feed all day, spending up to 20 hours a day. The eats about 200 kilograms.
The African ostrich is one of the largest birds: The ostrich has a dense physique, a long neck and a small flattened head. The beak is straight, flat, with horny “claw” on the supraclue, quite soft. Eyes large with thick eyelashes on the upper eyelid. In case of danger, they take to flight, speeding up to 60-70 km / h and making steps in 3,5-4 m long, and if necessary change abruptly the direction of the run, without reducing the speed.
In captivity, an ostrich needs about 3.5 kg of food per day. It is economical at this weight.
Leopard, like a cheetah, hunts once in two or three days. He eats a little more than a cheetah. A leopard has a big advantage over other big cats, because he can drag game high on a tree and not be afraid to lose prey.
Hyenas are not scavengers. Yes, they are able to feed on carrion, but two-thirds of their diet is food obtained independently. Hyenas are quite voracious. And although her own weight is not more than the weight of a leopard. She is able to consume about 15 kilograms at a time.
At a time, the lion can eat up to 35 kilograms of meat. Lionesses eat a little less.
Tiger eats 250 kilograms of chickens.
